April 2018 Rotary Theme

April is "Maternal and Child Health Month" within Rotary.  Learn more on the Rotary International Website.

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.
Winter Wonderland Giveaway
Passport members held a successful book giveaway at a Winter Wonderland event hosted by Metro Parks Tacoma and Tacoma Public Schools for children with disabilities and their families. The Winter Wonderland event also included family fun activities like bounce houses, face painting, outdoor games, and horse-drawn carriage rides. The kids were so excited to learn they could get a free book! Leftover books from the event were donated to Tacoma Public Schools' Little Free Libraries.
2018 Rotary District 5020 Service Project
On Thursday, May 3, 2018, the day before the start of the 2018 Rotary District 5020 Conference and Training, the 2017/2018 Rotary District Leadership is proud to partner with The Outreach Program and The Hotel Murano to bring you the First Annual Rotary 5020 District Wide Service Project.
During our Club Meeting on February 14th we heard from a co-chair for the event, Sally Porter Smith.  She told us about the first annual District Wide Service Project.  Together, we will package 50,000 meals in four two-hour segments starting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 and ending at 4:00 p.m. that same day. We are searching for 336 Rotarian volunteers to work 14 to a workstation and there will be six workstations to each two-hour segment, therefore, each Rotarian will only work a two-hour segment. Each meal is nutritious and packed with proteins and vitamins and has a two-year shelf life.
Attendance at DTA is not required in order to participate in the service project.  More information about the project can be found on the district website:
Here is a link to the video that Sally mentioned that highlights the service project.
