Book Drive/Giveaway for STAR Center's Winter Wonderland
Tacoma Schools & MetroParks (ALF Class 24) is hosting an event on March 11th from 2:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the STAR Center for families who have children with disabilities. Our Rotary Club goal is to collect 2,200 books (K-5 reading level) to give away at the event. Any leftover books from the event will go to our Little Free Libraries. With 1,000 books already collected, we are nearly halfway to our event goal! We’ll hold a book drive at our February 14th and February 28th meetings, so feel free to bring any children’s books with you. To volunteer to hand out books to children at the event, please sign up here for a two-hour shift. Large quantities of books can also be dropped off to Jinnie Horan at Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound (in the building next door to the STAR Center). If you have any questions, feel free to contact Joe LeRoy, Jinnie Horan, or Megan Schoor.
Remembering Christopher Howard Lee
Christopher Howard Lee, a charter member of our Rotary Passport Club of Pierce County, passed away early Tuesday, February 6, 2018, after a courageous battle. Chris was Chair of the Membership Committee and had previously been a member of Tacoma 8 Rotary from 2012-2016. Chris’ energy and passion were felt by those who knew him. From his business in Sandler Training, to his love of Egyptology, to being a Rotarian, he did it all with love and enthusiasm. The Passport Club awarded Chris his first Paul Harris Fellowship. When he learned of this honor, he clutched the Paul Harris medallion to his heart, got tears in his eyes, and said that he was thrilled to receive it. Chris was grateful, and we are grateful to have had him in our lives. He is survived by his wife, Lynn, whom he loved and adored. Lynn thanks the Passport Club for the card with words of comfort and for the gift she received. A public celebration of Chris’ life is being planned for early summer and will be announced to the Club. Chris will be missed terribly.
