Little Free Library Build Party
What a fun and rewarding night.  On February 22nd we had a great showing of members, friends, family and visiting Rotarians as we had our first club project, building little libraries!  Thank you to all that turned out.  We build 5 libraries that will be installed in South Tacoma/Pierce County for the community members to enjoy.  In the near future we will have a few more projects as we place the library in the community and we will be collecting books which will provide community members with adventure, entertainment and education.
This project was truly a group effort.  A HUGE thank you to everyone that helped make this great night possible:
Tyler York for all of the pre-project planning and coordination.
York Enterprises for hosting the event.
Schramm Marketing for providing the wonderful food and beverages
Matty Photography for the amazing photos
Our libraries were made possible by donations of materials from local companies: Gray Lumber, Kel-Tech Plastics and Sherwin-Williams
Brianna Mitchell - Boys and Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound's 2017 Youth of the Year
On March 8th we will hear from Brianna Mitchell, the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound's 2017 Youth of the Year, during our club meeting.
Brianna Mitchell is a ten year member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound, Lakewood Branch, and is currently a senior at Lakes High School. At the Club she is a member of Keystone, participates in SMART Girls, Healthy Habits, and drama programs. She is actively involved in volleyball, her school's student government, and community service. Brianna plans to attend Eastern Washington University to study psychology and pursue a career as a psychologist.
Brianna was named the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound 2017 Youth of the Year at the Legacy of HOPE event on February 16th. She will represent the organization at the Washington State Youth of the Year competition with 12 other teens representing their Clubs from across the State, March 21-23. As the BGCSPS Youth of the Year, Brianna will receive a minimum of a $5,000 scholarship.
Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of America's premier youth leadership and recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Candidates embody the values of leadership, service, academic excellence and healthy lifestyles. They exemplify the critical impact the Boys & Girls Clubs have on the lives of young people. Judges score each candidate based on their essays, interviews, public speaking and overall application.
We hope you are able to join us for this meeting as we hear from this amazing young lady.
