Kids’ Mental Health—Pierce County (KMHPC) is a coalition of people and agencies in Pierce County that are joining together to address the growing behavioral health crisis among school age children and youth.
Kids’ Mental Health - Pierce County is dedicated to developing a coordinated, responsive behavioral health system that serves the needs of children, youth and families at the right time, in the best place, with the best outcome for every family. KMHPC coordinates with initiatives focused on young children to create a continuum of behavioral health services starting at birth.
Our shared values engender trust and link coalition members together. Children are at the center of our work. We are committed to supporting children’s well-being, promoting cultural responsiveness and equity, and incorporating youth and family voice into our work.
KMHPC has been able to accomplish the following in response to increased behavioral health needs related to the pandemic:
  • A County-wide multidisciplinary team (MDT) that responds to complex behavioral health patients who aren’t being successfully served by the existing behavioral health system.  The team provides weekly and ongoing consults for children who require creative and comprehensive planning to keep them safe and well in their community; referrals can be made by families or professionals via the KMH-PC website.  The MDT is crucial during the pandemic as children who were previously served in the community have been unable to engage in treatment and are at greater risk for hospitalization.
  • Creation of a County-wide youth crisis systems meeting that meets bi-weekly to discuss/respond to changes in the crisis system due to COVID.
  • A virtual webinar series to support parents and youth with psychoeducation aimed at coping, homeschooling, family resilience, and neurodevelopment. The next webinar will be held Wednesday, July 29th at 3:00PM (flyer attached). The webinar will be aimed at providing resources and support for parents and caregivers to talk to parents about race and social justice.
  • A “Under this Mask is a Helper” campaign designed to lessen the anxiety of children receiving behavioral health services from providers in PPE. KMHPC donated buttons for medical and behavioral health providers to upload their picture onto a button to help with engagement and reducing anxiety of children and youth engaging in behavioral health services while wearing PPE.
  • Behavioral health navigation for the cohort of children who have used the emergency department two or more times since the onset of the pandemic.  These children are struggling to stay engaged with their outpatient providers via telehealth and are using the emergency department for mental health crises.
  • PPE training for community behavioral health providers and families.
  • Develop and maintain COVID-specific resources on the KMH-PC website.

Jennifer Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, has been nominated to become Rotary International's president for 2022-2023, a selection that will make her the first woman to hold that office in the organization's 115-year history.

Please join me in welcoming Jennifer to her new position as our future leader.
Success! July EFN Food Drive
Way to go Passport Club of Pierce County! Weighing in at over 640 pounds we exceeded our goal of over 500 pounds of easy to prepare food items for Emergency Food network!!
Why Easy to Prep Food
EFN has a brand new home delivery program delivering boxes of fresh and nonperishable food directly to our neighbors in need. One major barrier for many of these individuals may be access to a kitchen. To serve our community members, they need more easy-to-prep food items that do not need to be cooked or prepped too much.
As a club we contributed many cans of tuna, soups, chili, peanut butter, crackers, bottled water, fruit cups and more, way to go team!!
As a reminder, everyone who participated will be entered into a drawing for a gift card. If you dropped items off at EFN and didn't let anyone know please email Jennifer Durham to be included!!
Rotarian of the Month 2020-2021
Each month a club member is named as Rotarian of the Month.  The newly awarded member will then be the one to select next month's ROTM for the reason of their choosing.
Congratulations to:

Good News for Polio Eradication!
Rotary was challenged with a match by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to raise $50 million dollars for Polio Plus in the 2019-2020 year which ended June 30th. The great news is that Rotarians met the challenge and the reward is an additional $100 million dollars from the Gates Foundation toward our efforts to eradicate polio!
You can contribute to the Rotary International Foundation in many ways, one of which is directly to Polio Plus. Contributions to both Polio Plus and to the Annual Fund (this is the fund that comes back to the district in matching grants) count as donations toward your Paul Harris Fellowship. For more information on the Foundation, Polio efforts and to sign up to donate to the Foundation sign-in (or create a log in) to My Rotary
For questions about the foundation please contact Foundation Chair, Tony Buhr.
