Book Drive/Giveaway for STAR Center's Winter Wonderland
Tacoma Schools & MetroParks (ALF Class 24) is hosting an event on March 11th from 2:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the STAR Center for families who have children with disabilities. Our Rotary Club goal is to collect 2,200 books (K-5 reading level) to give away at the event. Any leftover books from the event will go to our Little Free Libraries. With 1,000 books already collected, we are nearly halfway to our event goal! We’ll hold a book drive at our February 14th and February 28th meetings, so feel free to bring any children’s books with you. To volunteer to hand out books to children at the event, please sign up here for a two-hour shift. Large quantities of books can also be dropped off to Jinnie Horan at Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound (in the building next door to the STAR Center). If you have any questions, feel free to contact Joe LeRoy, Jinnie Horan, or Megan Schoor.
2018 Rotary District 5020 Service Project
On Thursday, May 3, 2018, the day before the start of the 2018 Rotary District 5020 Conference and Training, the 2017/2018 Rotary District Leadership is proud to partner with The Outreach Program and The Hotel Murano to bring you the First Annual Rotary 5020 District Wide Service Project.

During our Club Meeting on February 14th we heard from a co-chair for the event, Sally Porter Smith.  She told us about the first annual District Wide Service Project.  Together, we will package 50,000 meals in four two-hour segments starting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 and ending at 4:00 p.m. that same day. We are searching for 336 Rotarian volunteers to work 14 to a workstation and there will be six workstations to each two-hour segment, therefore, each Rotarian will only work a two-hour segment. Each meal is nutritious and packed with proteins and vitamins and has a two-year shelf life.

Attendance at DTA is not required in order to participate in the service project.  More information about the project can be found on the district website: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/50092/sitepage/2018-district-training-and-conference/service-project-information

Here is a link to the video that Sally mentioned that highlights the service project.
