PCPC ROTARY MEETING
AUGUST 8, 2018
Promptly at 6:00 P.M. President Jinnie welcomed the 25 Members and guests.  Sue Dahlin (Rotarian of The Month-Congrats!!) led us in the FOUR WAY TEST.

AROUND THE ROOM
Past Pres. Stephanie is celebrating a new office. Deb Ranniger is officially Retiring at the end of August—Congrats!!  Helen liked her chat on line with incoming Pres of EFN. Karyn Siegrist invited us all to Lindquist Dentals 1st Ing Breakfast Fund Raiser.  Megan Schoor is beginning her new commute with a partner—Her Hubby. Tony Buhr thanked all in attendance at Rotary’s Night at the Rainer’s. Jennifer (“The Flosser”) Wolbrecht just got back from Indiana with her Hubby who writes music for the Gaming Industry. And of course, new Daddy Tyler York bragged about his little guy, Jake Taylor York born 7/1/18.  7 lbs, 10oz. Baby is doing well sleeps most of the night as Tyler doesn’t even look tired. 
 
COMMITTEE UPDATES
Jennifer Durham reminded us about the Past Presidents and District Assistant Governors challenges for new Membership in our Club.  Lets all put in a great effort on this so we can view the finished Rotary Tattoo she is going to get!!
Karyn Siegrist is setting up a way for us to keep track of Clubs time in Service Projects.  At the sign in she will have an area where we can capture our efforts and record them for our Clubs use in District Reporting.
Megan Schoor gave us an update on Paddle to Puyallup.  Paddlers (no no not that kind, the ones that propel a canoe) came from Washington, Alaska and Canada.  Also, don’t forget our August 22, 2018 Meeting is at Hope Sparks.  Check future emails for directions and items needed for their back to school backpack program. Clothing is needed for their Clothes Closet. We are dedicating a Little Free Library that night.  Books are desperately needed for this one and the other ones we have out in the Community.  Finally, we will have a Little Free Library Build on September 26th at York Enterprises.  It’s a social==bring a prospective Rotarian to this and share our fellowship.

DISTRICT GOVERNORS VISIT
 
Helen McGovern Pilant introduces our Guest Speaker.  Lizz Dunbar, Tacoma Community House.
Liz is the Executive Director.  Her topic was “Immigrants & Refugees-Reality vs. Rhetoric. It can take an adult citizen from Philippines or Mexico up to 22 years for a green card.  From China 10-12 years.  During the wait time for Green Card the person cannot live here only visit for up to 90 days.  After the person has a Green Card for 5 Years they can pay a fee of $125 to apply for Citizenship.  Then wait another 14 months to get a Permanent Resident Status.
Tacoma Community House was founded in 1910.  They provide 4 major areas of help.  Employment, Education (GED help and ESL), Immigration and Advocacy.  Thank you, Liz, for a fantastic talk on what your Organization does and how they are trying to help all in need.
